Libraries became my “second home” when as a third grade student in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, I met Nancy Drew!!! With that delightful children’s series, I became “hooked on reading”. I eagerly awaited each new mystery title! Over the years reading became my favorite pastime, and I became a “library lover”!!! When I decided on a career, my love of reading became a guiding force in my decision to become an educator. Graduating from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Elementary Education, I was excited and thrilled to teach children the joy and power of literacy. Later, I obtained a graduate degree in Library Science from Western Ky. University. As a children’s librarian at Helmwood Heights Elementary School for over eighteen years, I had the privilege of presenting talented authors and their books of great adventures or factual information to young people. It was a “dream job” for me! To this day, literacy and children’s literature are a passion of mine.
